New non-stop flight between Edmonton and Kamloops
WestJet Encore to begin service in February 2015
(Edmonton, AB) - Edmonton International Airport (EIA) is pleased to welcome the new WestJet Encore non-stop service between Edmonton and Kamloops. The new daily service will depart from Edmonton at 2:45 pm, arriving in Kamloops at 3:15pm. The return flight will depart from Kamloops at 3:45 pm and arrive in Edmonton at 6:01pm. The route will be served by Encore's new state-of-the-art Bombardier Q400 aircraft.
"This new non-stop means that travellers from Kamloops and the Thompson Rivers Valley have easier access into Edmonton's great network of 61 destinations across North America, the Caribbean and Europe. It also gives the Edmonton region access to Kamloops, which is very popular as both a summer and ski destination. It's a win for travellers in both directions," said Tom Ruth, President and CEO of Edmonton International Airport.
“This is an important business connection for the Kamloops region, which is home to many workers who commute to northern Alberta’s energy sector and will also be valuable to inbound tourists coming into Kamloops for its great summer and winter leisure opportunities,” says Fred Legace, Managing Director, Kamloops Airport.
"EEDC is thrilled with WestJet's continuous understanding of the Edmonton business community. Many energy, engineering and energy service workers move back and forth between Edmonton and Kamloops, as well as those seeking 4-day weekends in both locations," says Brad Ferguson, President and CEO of Edmonton Economic Development Corporation.
"Alberta is a growing market for Sun Peaks in both the winter and the summer months, but it was limited by the 9-hour drive. This flight allows a person to leave Edmonton and be on the slopes in just over two hours," says Christopher Nicolson, President of Tourism Sun Peaks.
EIA develops its air service offerings in close partnership with Edmonton Economic Development Corp., Edmonton Tourism, Edmonton Destination Marketing Hotels and regional businesses.
