Le nouvel hall pour les arrivées au Canada est prêt à accueillir un plus grand nombre de passagers à l'EIA

Record number of international and US passengers drives need for larger Canada Arrivals Hall

May 17, 2012 (Edmonton, Alta.) - The latest stage of Edmonton International Airport's (EIA) Expansion 2012 has opened to the travelling public with a spacious, artful arrivals hall and the completion of the first phase of the expanded Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) area. Record increases in passenger numbers at EIA , including international and US travellers, made new Canada Arrivals space essential.

Numbers of Passengers Served by EIA as of April 30, 2012

–     Overall 2 191 054 Year to Date (7,7 % growth)

–     Domestic 1 549 594 Year to Date (7,5 % growth)

–     Transborder (US) 442 010 Year to Date (10,2 % growth)Busiest April Ever!

–     International 199 450 Year to Date (4,3 % growth)

–       Rolling 12 Month total6,433,801(5,1 % growth)

A second phase of the CBSA area will be completed in September. An additional baggage carousel, additional counters and completion of the working space will round out the construction and allow for the adoption of new technologies in the future.

Visitors to the Capital Region will also get a whole new first impression and residents returning from business or vacation trips will get a warmer welcome back thanks to two remarkable pieces of art in the Canada Arrivals Hall:

–       Michael Hayden’s “The Raven” is the traditional bringer of light in mythology.  The sculpture hangs from the ceiling of the CBSA entrance and refracts light.

–       Green Over Grey’s “Living Wall,” vertical garden of plants recycles the air inside the terminal while giving travellers a beautiful, lush garden to enjoy viewing.  The wall is an original design inspired by cloud formations in the center, flanked by two designs based on paintings by artists from Canada’s “Group of Seven.”
