Faites des vacances une expérience émouvante

EIA offers entertainment and handy tips to brighten your holiday travel

December 9, 2010 (Edmonton, Alta.) - Edmonton International Airport (EIA) is going all out to enhance the passenger experience during December, the busiest month for air travel. With up to 22 000 passengers a day and thousands more people waiting to pick up or see their loved ones off, EIA is a very busy place in December.

“It can be hectic,” said Edmonton Airports’ President and CEO Reg Milley. “This makes it just that much more important for us to improve the experience for our passengers. From the curb to the gate, we are focused on creating a moving experience for them,” he added.

As the Christmas period can be a stressful time, EIA expands its art and ambience program providing special seasonal entertainment to help passengers relax as much as possible and reflect. Musical activities include performances by seven choirs from Edmonton Public Schools, 35 performances by young musicians from Edmonton's U22 Productions, and 20 performances from other local artists. Transalta Corporation also partners with Edmonton Tourism and EIA in Live All Year by sponsoring the Festival City in a Box program which provides entertainers such as jugglers, stilt walkers and musicians who play at the airport to showcase local festivals. In addition to live entertainment, children will have the opportunity to spend time in Santa's Storyland at two locations, which feature videos, games, storybooks and appearances by Santa himself.

This year, EIA has also made life easier for travellers by providing an affordable and convenient new parking option. JetSet is an innovative new service that provides both a valet and self-serve option that include shuttle service to the terminal. In addition, the lot features airline check-in kiosks and a bag-drop option for WestJet customers. "With JetSet, we have added 3 000 more stalls, and many people are taking advantage of the online
advance booking option. It's a convenient option that can also ease the stress out of travelling, especially at this time of year" said Milley.

From parking to packing, EIA is working hard to make passengers' experience as seamless as possible. "We even have our own crew of Holiday Elves to assist customers during our busy times," added Milley. EIA staff and the Northern Lights Airport Volunteers will provide extra helping hands and guidance, and bring warm holiday greetings to passengers over the holidays. Once passengers are through security, they can relax and enjoy EIA's newly expanded dining and shopping options. Earlier this year EIA also introduced free Wi-Fi, which might come in handy to e-mail last-minute
requests to Santa.

To help move you this season, EIA also offers the following “Top 10 Do’s and Don’ts”:
