First Belgian Beer Café in Canada officially opens at EIA

Before your flight: Sip, share, savour, repeat

December 13, 2012 (Edmonton, AB) – Serving customers since the opening of Edmonton International Airport’s (EIA) new Domestic-International Passenger Lounge on September 15, the Belgian Beer Café Transit was officially opened today by His Excellency Bruno van der Pluijm, Ambassador of Belgium in Canada.

EIA customers are stepping into 1920s Belgium to relax and enjoy authentic, traditional Belgian beers, HoppetizersTM, main courses and deserts at Canada’s first Belgian Beer Café.

"With its friendly, casual atmosphere, excellent Belgian dishes, great tasting, unique beer and knowledgeable, friendly service, the Belgian Beer Café is a great addition to EIA and the new terminal," says Reg Milley, EIA President and CEO. "We have significantly improved the airport experience for our customers and the Belgian Beer Café is a prime example of bringing in fresh, unique offerings."

Owned by the Edmonton-based Speedy Creek, the café’s menu is a blend of traditional Belgian cuisine and local Alberta favorites to delight guests with superior taste and high-quality ingredients in every dish and beer served.

"Opening a new restaurant is always cause for celebration, but this one is particularly significant and special" says Gerry Inglis, Speedy Creek Owner and CEO. "We are very fortunate to be partnering with a leader in airport excellence and this milestone demonstrates EIA's commitment to develop and bring authentic flavours to all EIA travellers. It is an exciting opportunity and we are delighted to be opening the first Canadian Belgian Beer Café, in the EIA."

Belgian Beer Café shares the Belgian spirit in four continents - Europe, Asia, Oceania and North America - at more than 60 Belgian Beer Café restaurants in 20 countries. The Belgian Beer Café concept was developed in 1998 by Creneau International for Belgian-based Anheuser-Busch InBev as a vehicle for promoting its beers worldwide, particularly its Belgian Stella Artois brand.

EIA now has 36 stylish shops and services, and together with 25 tasty restaurants you can just eat, shop and relax. For more information about the Belgian Beer Café, visit https://www.ecgventures.ca/.
