Cargojet prend la tête au Cargo Village de l'AIE

Cargo company’s operations take flight from specialized new facility

December 6, 2012 (Edmonton, AB) – Cargojet, Canada’s leading provider of time sensitive overnight air cargo services, has expanded operations with a newly constructed facility at Edmonton International Airport (EIA).

A group of investors led by Terracap Investments Inc. owns the new world-class, multi-tenant cargo facility, built on four acres of land at the end of the south runway. Cargojet has taken possession of approximately 8 700 square feet of the 50 000 square foot facility. The industrial and cargo distribution centre provides tenants with direct access to 236 000 sq feet of cement aircraft handling apron space, through its 40 loading doors.

"This is a big step for both the company and the airport," said Lyle Gibson, Cargojet General Manager for Western Canada. "It is an important location for us, as well as a gateway for many of our courier customers to the North".

The newly opened facility provides the cost-effective base for Cargojet to grow its Edmonton operations, with the much needed warehouse space and dedicated cargo ramp that are both essential for cargo carriers to operate from an airport. The increased space for cargo aircraft and the new handling facilities will give the airport the ability to handle increased cargo volume in future.

This operation and other land development projects reflect EIA’s more than 20 $ million commitment to ensure the infrastructure is in place to support the growing cargo and general aviation sectors.

"We're really pleased to host Cargojet," said Myron Keehn, EIA Vice President of Commercial Development. "Cargojet's operation from this new cargo facility, a component of EIA's Cargo Village, will help serve the growing need for cargo services in the Capital Region, make our region more competitive and give EIA a much higher profile."

“Our investment in this state of the art cargo facility is indicative of our confidence in the future of the airport and the vision and direction set by EIA” added Wayne Humphries, Chief Investment Officer for Terracap Investments Inc.
